That is longer than a standard eye test, on purpose: it gives us time to examine your eyes properly, explain what we find in plain language, and talk through lenses or treatment without rushing. If it is your first visit, arrive a few minutes early so we can take your details. No referral is needed to see an optometrist. If we think an OCT scan would show us something the examination alone cannot, we explain why and quote the $60 before going ahead. Children under 18 are bulk billed. What to bring: - Your Medicare card, so we can process the rebate on the day through HICAPS - Your Pension or Health Care Card, if you have one - Your current glasses, and your contact lenses if you wear them - Any recent prescription, or a referral or letter from your GP or a specialist - A list of any medications you take, as some affect the eyes - Sunglasses, in case we use dilating drops and your eyes are light-sensitive afterwards --- ## Services ### Comprehensive Eye Examinations in Holland Park West URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/services/eye-examinations A thorough 45 to 60 minute eye exam with a therapeutically endorsed optometrist. We check your vision and the health of your eyes, then explain clearly what we found. We see patients from Holland Park West, Mount Gravatt, Greenslopes and the surrounding Brisbane suburbs. #### More than a vision check Reading letters off a chart is only a small part of a comprehensive eye examination. At Holland Park Eyecare every exam looks at how well you see and at how healthy your eyes are, because many eye conditions develop without obvious symptoms long before they affect your vision. We book 45 to 60 minutes for every comprehensive exam, which is a lot longer than a standard appointment. That gives us time to test properly, explain what we find in plain language and answer your questions. #### What your examination includes Your optometrist will assess your vision and prescription, check how your eyes work together, and examine the health of each eye. That includes screening for common conditions such as glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration, and the eye changes associated with diabetes and high blood pressure. If you need glasses or contact lenses, we'll go through your options. If you need glasses, we'll also assess you for Rodenstock B.I.G. VISION™ lenses, which are calculated from the individual biometry of your eyes. If we see something that needs a closer look, we can take an OCT scan and retinal photograph in-house. It's an optional extra test that images the retina in cross-section. It isn't part of every examination, and we'll always explain why we're suggesting it and what it costs before going ahead. #### When should you have an eye exam? For most adults with no existing conditions, we recommend a comprehensive eye exam every two years. If you have diabetes, a strong prescription, a family history of eye disease, or are over 65, more frequent checks are usually advised. You don't need a referral to see an optometrist, so you can book with us directly. If we find something that needs specialist care, we'll refer you and send a detailed clinical summary. **What's included** - 45 to 60 minutes with your optometrist, rather than the standard 15 - Full vision and prescription assessment - Glaucoma screening and an eye health examination - Diabetic and general eye health checks - Your results explained in plain language - Medicare rebate processed on the day via HICAPS --- ### OCT Scans & Retinal Photography in Holland Park West URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/services/oct-scan An OCT scan builds a cross-section of your retina so we can see the layers beneath the surface. That's where glaucoma and macular changes begin, often well before you'd notice anything. We take the scan in-house at our Holland Park West clinic, together with a retinal photograph. #### What the scan shows A retinal photograph shows the surface of the retina. It's a detailed, permanent record of what we see when we look into your eye. An OCT scan shows what sits underneath. It uses light (not sound or radiation) to build a cross-section of the retina, so we can look at the individual layers and measure their thickness. That matters because some of the earliest changes in eye disease happen below the surface. Thinning of the nerve fibre layer around the optic nerve can point to glaucoma before any vision is lost, and fluid or thinning at the macula can be there before a photograph looks abnormal. You get both views from the one capture. The photograph records what we can see, and the scan shows what's beneath it. #### When we recommend a scan An OCT scan isn't part of every eye examination. We recommend one when we think it will tell us something a standard examination can't. That might be a family history of glaucoma, an optic nerve or macula we want a closer look at, diabetes, changes you've noticed in your central vision, or a finding we want to record as a baseline and track over time. The fee is $60, which covers the OCT scan and the retinal photograph for both eyes. Medicare doesn't rebate OCT imaging, so this is a private fee, separate from your consultation. It doesn't affect the Medicare rebate on your examination. If we think a scan is worthwhile, we'll explain what we're looking for and quote the $60 before we do it. #### What the scan is like It's painless and nothing touches your eye. You rest your chin on a support and look at a target while the scan runs, which takes about a minute per eye. Most people don't need dilating drops, so you can usually drive afterwards. We'll let you know beforehand if you're likely to need drops. We go through the images with you at the same visit and explain what we're seeing in plain language. We keep the scan so we can compare it with future ones, and that's often where it earns its keep: change over time tells us more than any single scan can. Our OCT is a Topcon Maestro, which takes the scan and the retinal photograph in one automated capture. That's why the two are always taken together. **What's included** - Cross-sectional imaging of the retina, macula and optic nerve - Nerve fibre layer thickness measurement around the optic nerve - A retinal photograph, included in the same $60 and never charged separately - No dilating drops needed for most patients - Painless, nothing touches the eye, about a minute per eye - Images explained in plain language at the same visit - A baseline stored to compare against at future visits --- ### Myopia Management for Children in Brisbane URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/services/myopia-management Short-sightedness (myopia) tends to get worse through childhood. Myopia management aims to slow that down, which does more for your child's long-term eye health than updating their glasses every year. Available at our Holland Park West clinic. #### Why slowing myopia matters Myopia, or short-sightedness, usually begins in childhood and tends to worsen as a child grows. As well as meaning stronger glasses each year, higher levels of myopia are linked to a greater risk of eye health problems later in life. Myopia management tries to slow how quickly short-sightedness progresses, instead of only correcting it after it has. #### How myopia management works We manage myopia using two evidence-based options: purpose-built myopia control spectacle lenses, and soft contact lenses designed specifically to slow myopia progression. Both correct your child's vision day to day and help slow how quickly their short-sightedness gets worse. The most suitable option depends on your child's age, prescription and lifestyle. At your child's appointment, your optometrist will measure their vision and eye health, talk you through which option suits them, and set up a plan to monitor how their myopia changes over time. #### The earlier, the better Starting early gives you the best chance of changing how myopia develops. If your child is becoming more short-sighted, squinting, or sitting very close to screens and books, it's worth booking an assessment. We bulk bill all children under 18. **What's included** - Assessment of your child's current myopia - Myopia control spectacle lens and soft contact lens options - A plan to monitor progression over time - A relaxed, child-friendly clinic - Bulk billed for all children under 18 --- ### Dry Eye Treatment in Holland Park West URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/services/dry-eye-treatment Eyes that keep feeling dry, gritty, watery or tired? Dry eye is common and very treatable. We work out what's causing it and put together a management plan, which often means more than eye drops. #### Understanding dry eye Dry eye happens when your eyes don't produce enough tears, or when your tears evaporate too quickly. It can cause stinging, grittiness, redness, blurry vision that comes and goes, and (surprisingly) watery eyes. Screen use, contact lenses, air-conditioning, ageing and certain medications can all contribute. #### Finding the cause Treatment starts with working out why your eyes are dry. Your optometrist will look at your tear film and the surface of your eye to identify which type of dry eye you have, and plan your treatment around that. A lot of dry eye comes back to the meibomian glands in your eyelids, which keep your tears from evaporating too quickly. Treatment usually combines lubricant eye drops, lid hygiene (lid wipes and warm compresses) and, where it helps, in-office meibomian gland expression to clear those glands and get them working again. We review how you're going over time, because the aim is relief that lasts, not a temporary fix. #### When to get help If dryness or irritation is affecting your comfort, your vision or your contact lens wear, it's worth getting it assessed. Dry eye is usually very manageable once the underlying cause is understood. **What's included** - Assessment of your tear film and ocular surface - Working out the underlying cause - Lubricant drops, lid hygiene and warm compress guidance - In-office meibomian gland expression where appropriate - Ongoing review to track your improvement --- ### Children's Eye Tests in Brisbane: Bulk Billed Under 18 URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/services/childrens-eye-tests Children often don't realise their vision isn't normal, so problems can go unnoticed. Our eye tests are child-friendly, and we bulk bill all children under 18. We see families from Holland Park, Mount Gravatt and Greenslopes. #### Why children's eye tests matter Much of what children learn is visual, but a lot of vision problems in children are missed. Kids often don't know what "normal" vision looks like, so they don't tell anyone. A problem nobody has picked up can affect reading, learning, concentration and confidence. Conditions such as amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye turn) and short-sightedness respond best when they're found early, which is why regular checks through childhood are worth doing. #### When should my child be tested? We recommend a child's first comprehensive eye exam before they start school, at around age four or five. After that, regular checks help catch any changes as they grow. If you notice squinting, sitting very close to screens, frequent headaches, or an eye that turns, it's worth booking sooner. #### A relaxed visit Our clinic is child-friendly and we're used to young patients. We keep the appointment relaxed and explain what we're doing as we go, to you and to your child. Because we bulk bill all children under 18, there's nothing to pay for their exam. **What's included** - Child-friendly comprehensive eye assessment - Screening for lazy eye, eye turn and short-sightedness - Guidance on myopia management where needed - A clear explanation for both parent and child - Bulk billed for all children under 18 --- ### Contact Lens Fittings in Holland Park West URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/services/contact-lenses A proper fitting makes a real difference to how comfortable your contact lenses feel and how well you see with them, whether you're new to contacts or after a better fit. We fit daily, monthly, toric and multifocal lenses. #### Why the fit matters Contact lenses sit directly on your eye, so the fit affects your comfort and your eye health. A fitting looks at the shape and surface of your eye, what you need to see and how you'll wear them, so we can find a lens that works for you. #### The lenses we fit We fit all the major types of contact lenses: daily disposables, monthly lenses, toric lenses for astigmatism, and multifocal lenses for people who need help with both distance and near vision. If you've been told contacts won't work for you, it's often worth a second look. A fitting includes a trial pair and a follow-up to make sure your comfort and vision are right, plus guidance on safe wear and lens care. #### Combine it with your eye exam A contact lens fitting works alongside your comprehensive eye examination. If you wear contacts, or would like to, just let us know when you book so we can allow enough time. **What's included** - Assessment of your eyes for contact lens suitability - Daily, monthly, toric and multifocal options - A trial pair and a follow-up review - Advice on safe wear, hygiene and lens care - Suitable for first-time and experienced wearers --- ### Rodenstock Lenses in Brisbane: B.I.G. VISION™ URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/services/rodenstock-lenses We chose Rodenstock as our exclusive lens partner because we believe the lens is the most important part of your glasses. Their B.I.G. VISION™ technology (Biometric Intelligent Glasses) builds every lens around the individual biometry of your eyes. #### Calculated from your own eyes Most lenses are calculated from a handful of standard prescription values, and those standard values suit only 2% of eyes. Rodenstock uses B.I.G. (Biometric Intelligent Glasses) to calculate every lens from the individual biometry of your eyes instead of an average model. The measurements come from your standard eye examination, so you don't need a special scan. You get a wider, more natural field of view, less distortion towards the edges, and glasses that feel right sooner, because they were made for your eyes. #### Making lenses since 1877 Rodenstock has been working in optics since 1877. It's one of the few companies in the world that still makes its own lenses from start to finish, so it controls the quality at every step. We'd rather do one thing brilliantly than many things adequately. That's why Rodenstock is the only lens maker we use. #### The right lens with the right frame Once we know your prescription and how you use your eyes day to day, we'll help you choose a frame for your Rodenstock lenses from our range of international and Australian designer brands. When you've picked a frame, we use Rodenstock's ImpressionIST® 3D video centration system to record exactly how it sits on your face, and your lenses are made to match. **What's included** - Lenses calculated from your individual eye biometry - A wider field of view with less edge distortion - Single-vision, progressive and specialty options - Paired with designer frames from our range - Frame centration measured with Rodenstock's ImpressionIST® 3D video system for precise lens placement - Assessed as part of your eye examination --- ## Eye conditions ### Glaucoma Testing in Holland Park West URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/eye-conditions/glaucoma Reviewed by Anthony Than, BVisSci, MOptom (QUT) · Therapeutically endorsed · Director & Optometrist on 30 July 2026 Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible vision loss, and it usually causes no symptoms until the damage is done. Regular eye examinations are the best way to catch it early. **Signs and symptoms** - Often no symptoms in the early stages - Gradual loss of peripheral (side) vision - Blurred vision or halos around lights (less common) - Higher risk if a close relative has glaucoma #### What is glaucoma? Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, the cable that carries vision from your eye to your brain. It is often linked to higher-than-normal pressure inside the eye, though it can also occur at normal pressures. Because glaucoma typically affects peripheral vision first and progresses slowly, most people don't notice it until there is already significant, permanent damage. That's why regular testing matters. #### Who is at risk? Risk increases with age, a family history of glaucoma, higher eye pressure, certain ethnic backgrounds, diabetes, and some medications. If a close relative has glaucoma, your own risk is several times higher, so please tell us. #### How we check for glaucoma You can't tell you have glaucoma from how your vision feels. It has to be looked for. As part of a comprehensive eye examination we assess your optic nerves, measure the pressure inside your eyes, and examine your retina. Where indicated, we carry out automated visual field testing in-house on our Medmont M700 perimeter, which maps your peripheral vision to look for the pattern of loss glaucoma causes. That testing is part of your consultation. We may also recommend an OCT scan. An OCT images the optic nerve in cross-section and measures the thickness of the nerve fibre layer around it. Thinning there can point to glaucoma before any vision has been lost, and the scan gives us a baseline to compare against over time, so we can pick up change early. It's an optional extra test, not part of a routine examination. It costs $60 for the scan and a retinal photograph of both eyes, and Medicare doesn't rebate it. We'll always explain why we're suggesting it and quote the cost before going ahead. #### How we help, and when we refer Optometrists do much of the work of finding and monitoring glaucoma. If we find signs or risk factors, we monitor you at the right interval and, when needed, refer you to an ophthalmologist for diagnosis and treatment. Glaucoma treatment, whether eye drops, laser or surgery, is managed by an ophthalmologist. We send a detailed clinical summary and keep co-managing your eye health alongside your specialist. **How Holland Park Eyecare helps** - Optic nerve and eye-pressure assessment - On-site visual field testing (Medmont M700 perimeter) - OCT scan of the optic nerve where indicated - Referral and co-management with ophthalmology --- ### Cataracts: Detection & Referral in Holland Park West URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/eye-conditions/cataracts Reviewed by Anthony Than, BVisSci, MOptom (QUT) · Therapeutically endorsed · Director & Optometrist on 1 July 2026 A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens that develops gradually, usually with age. We can detect cataracts early, monitor them, and refer you for surgery when the time is right. **Signs and symptoms** - Blurry, hazy or dim vision - Glare and halos around lights, especially at night - Colours looking faded or yellowed - Frequent changes to your glasses prescription #### What is a cataract? Behind your pupil sits a clear natural lens that focuses light onto the retina. A cataract is when that lens becomes cloudy, scattering light and blurring your vision. Cataracts are extremely common with age and usually progress slowly over months to years. #### Who gets cataracts? Most cataracts are age-related, but they can develop earlier with diabetes, certain medications (such as long-term steroids), eye injury, smoking, and significant UV exposure over a lifetime. #### How we detect cataracts We examine the lens of your eye during a comprehensive examination and assess how a cataract is affecting your vision and daily life. We explain what we find in plain language and track any changes over time. #### How we help, and when we refer Early on, updating your glasses can keep you seeing comfortably. Once a cataract starts getting in the way of everyday things like driving, reading or work, the treatment is day surgery by an ophthalmologist to replace the cloudy lens. It's a straightforward operation and it is highly successful. We refer you at the right time, send your clinical details, and look after your vision before and after surgery. **How Holland Park Eyecare helps** - Lens assessment and vision-impact check - Updated glasses while a cataract is mild - Referral for cataract surgery at the right time - Care before and after your surgery --- ### Macular Degeneration (AMD) in Holland Park West URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/eye-conditions/macular-degeneration Reviewed by Anthony Than, BVisSci, MOptom (QUT) · Therapeutically endorsed · Director & Optometrist on 30 July 2026 Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects the central vision you use for reading, driving and recognising faces. Early detection and monitoring give the best chance of preserving your sight. **Signs and symptoms** - Blurred or distorted central vision (straight lines look wavy) - A dark or empty patch in the centre of your vision - Difficulty reading or recognising faces - Needing more light than you used to #### What is macular degeneration? The macula is the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. In AMD the macula gradually deteriorates. That affects your central vision but usually leaves your peripheral vision intact. There are two main types. "Dry" AMD is more common and progresses slowly; "wet" AMD is less common but faster and more serious, and needs prompt treatment to protect vision. #### Who is at risk? Age is the biggest factor, along with family history, high blood pressure, and diet. Smoking is the biggest risk you can change, and quitting is one of the best things you can do for your macula. #### How we detect and monitor it We examine your macula and retina during a comprehensive exam and look for early changes. We may also give you a simple tool, such as an Amsler grid, to check your own central vision at home between visits. Where it's needed, we recommend an OCT scan. It images the macula in cross-section and can show fluid or thinning that a surface view doesn't, and it comes with a retinal photograph that records the macula so we can compare it at future visits. It's an optional extra test, not part of a routine examination, and costs $60 for both eyes. Medicare doesn't rebate it. We'll explain why we're suggesting it and quote the cost first. #### How we help, and when we refer Finding AMD early means we can monitor it and give you lifestyle advice that may help slow it down. Wet AMD needs prompt treatment, so if we suspect it we refer you urgently to an ophthalmologist, because injections given in time can preserve vision. We keep monitoring and co-managing your care alongside your specialist. **How Holland Park Eyecare helps** - Macula and retinal examination - OCT scan of the macula where indicated - Lifestyle and nutrition guidance - Urgent referral for suspected wet AMD --- ### Diabetic Eye Checks in Holland Park West URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/eye-conditions/diabetic-eye-disease Reviewed by Anthony Than, BVisSci, MOptom (QUT) · Therapeutically endorsed · Director & Optometrist on 30 July 2026 Diabetes can damage the blood vessels in the retina, often without early symptoms. If you have diabetes, a regular diabetic eye check is one of the most important things you can do to protect your vision. **Signs and symptoms** - Often no symptoms in the early stages - Blurred or fluctuating vision - Floaters or dark spots in your vision - Sudden vision loss (seek urgent care) #### What is diabetic eye disease? High blood sugar over a long period can damage the tiny blood vessels in the retina. This is called diabetic retinopathy. Left unchecked, these vessels can leak, swell or grow abnormally, and that can threaten your vision. Diabetes also raises the risk of other eye problems, including macular oedema, cataracts and glaucoma. #### Why regular checks matter Diabetic retinopathy often causes no symptoms until it is advanced, so you can't rely on how your vision feels. We recommend that people with diabetes have a comprehensive retinal examination at least once a year, and more often if we find any changes. #### How we check your eyes During a diabetic eye check we carefully examine the retina in both eyes for signs of damage and explain what we find. Where it's clinically needed, we recommend an OCT scan and retinal photograph. The OCT images the retina in cross-section, which is how we look for macular oedema (swelling at the macula, and the change that most often affects vision in diabetes). The photograph records your retina so we can compare it over time. It's an optional extra test, not part of a routine examination. It costs $60 for both eyes, Medicare doesn't rebate it, and we always quote it before going ahead. #### How we help, and when we refer Picking up changes early means they can be treated before your vision is affected. We'll tell you how often you should be checked, and if we find sight-threatening changes we refer promptly to an ophthalmologist for treatment such as laser or injections. We coordinate with your GP and specialist as part of your overall diabetes care. **How Holland Park Eyecare helps** - Thorough retinal examination - OCT scan of the retina and macula where indicated - Advice on how often to be checked - Prompt referral and GP / specialist coordination --- ## Areas we serve ### Independent Optometrist for Brisbane's Southside URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/optometrist-brisbane-southside Holland Park Eyecare is an independent, owner-operated optometry practice at Shop 1/970 Logan Road, Holland Park West. It is a single clinic, and patients come to it from across Brisbane's southside, including Holland Park, Mount Gravatt, Greenslopes, Tarragindi, Mansfield, Moorooka and Carindale. #### Why choose an independent optometrist? Holland Park Eyecare is independent: the optometrist who examines your eyes, Anthony Than, also owns and runs the practice. He decides how long appointments run and which lenses we fit. Every comprehensive exam is booked for 45 to 60 minutes, and the full fee schedule is published on this website, so you know the cost before you book. It also means you see the same optometrist at every visit. That matters for anything that changes slowly. Glaucoma risk and a child's short-sightedness are both easier to judge when the person reading this year's results also saw last year's. #### More than 30 years on Logan Road A practice has looked after this stretch of Logan Road for more than three decades. When Anthony took over the business, he set out to honour that history and to build the practice around longer appointments and clear pricing. Anthony studied at Queensland University of Technology, where he completed a Bachelor of Vision Science and a Master of Optometry. He is therapeutically endorsed and has been practising since 2020. #### What does an eye test cost? A comprehensive eye examination at Holland Park Eyecare is $100. Most patients get a Medicare rebate of $67.85 on the day, which leaves $32.15 out of pocket. Pension Card holders pay a reduced fee of $85, which is $17.15 after the rebate. Children under 18 are bulk billed, so their eye test costs nothing. #### Getting here from across the southside The clinic is on Logan Road in Holland Park West, across the road from the post office. If you live or work in Holland Park, we're your local independent optometrist. #### An independent optometrist on your doorstep Holland Park and Holland Park West share the same stretch of Logan Road, so getting to us from anywhere in Holland Park takes only a few minutes. Our clinic is at Shop 1/970 Logan Road, so there's no need to drive across town or into the city for an eye test. We're owner-operated, not part of a chain. You see the same optometrist every visit, in a clinic that knows the local area. That kind of continuity is hard to find at a shopping-centre franchise. #### Eye care the whole family can walk in for Holland Park is a family suburb, and we see patients of every age. We bulk bill all children under 18, so a child's eye test costs you nothing out of pocket, and we offer myopia management to help slow short-sightedness as kids grow. For adults and older patients, every comprehensive examination includes screening for glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and the eye changes linked to diabetes. We book 45 to 60 minutes for every comprehensive exam, much longer than a standard appointment, so there's time to test properly, explain what we find in plain language and answer your questions. #### Fees you can see before you book We publish our full fee schedule, so Holland Park patients know what an eye test costs before they book. Most patients get their Medicare rebate on the day through our HICAPS terminal, pension card holders pay a reduced fee, and every child under 18 is bulk billed. The full breakdown is on our fees page. Directions: A few minutes west along Logan Road from Holland Park. We're at Shop 1/970 Logan Road, Holland Park West. Nearby: Logan Road, Holland Park State School --- ### Optometrist Near Mount Gravatt URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/optometrist-mount-gravatt If you're in Mount Gravatt and would rather have an unhurried appointment with an owner-operated optometrist than a quick one at a busy shopping-centre chain, Holland Park Eyecare is a short drive north along Logan Road. #### A short drive up Logan Road Logan Road links Mount Gravatt and Upper Mount Gravatt straight to our clinic in Holland Park West, so the trip is quick and direct, and you don't have to fight for a park at Westfield Garden City to get your eyes tested. If you're near Griffith University's Mount Gravatt campus, the showgrounds or the Logan Road shops, we're only minutes away. At an independent practice the visit is calmer, and you see the same optometrist each time. Your eye health is followed properly over the years instead of by whoever happens to be rostered on. #### The full range of eye care Mount Gravatt patients come to us for routine eye tests and for more specialised care. Every comprehensive examination takes 45 to 60 minutes and screens for glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. We also fit contact lenses, manage dry eye, provide myopia management for children, and bulk bill everyone under 18. For glasses, we're an exclusive Rodenstock practice. Their B.I.G. VISION™ lenses are calculated from the individual biometry of your own eyes rather than an average template. We pair them with frames from international and Australian designer brands that you won't find in a chain store. #### Know the cost before you book A lot of practices make you ring to find out the price. We publish our fees in full, so you can see what an eye examination costs, what Medicare pays back and what you'll be out of pocket before you book. Children under 18 are bulk billed and pension card holders pay a reduced fee. Directions: A short drive north along Logan Road from Mount Gravatt. We're at Shop 1/970 Logan Road, Holland Park West. Nearby: Logan Road, Westfield Garden City, Griffith University Mt Gravatt --- ### Optometrist Near Greenslopes URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/optometrist-greenslopes Holland Park Eyecare is a few minutes from Greenslopes, a straight run along Logan Road. If you live or work near Greenslopes Private Hospital, we're your closest independent, owner-operated optometrist. #### Minutes away along Logan Road Greenslopes sits just north of us on Logan Road, so the drive to our Holland Park West clinic takes only a few minutes. If you work at or visit Greenslopes Private Hospital, or live around Greenslopes Mall and that stretch of Logan Road, you don't need to trek into the city or wait at a busy chain for an eye test. We're a small independent practice, and we intend to stay that way. You see the same optometrist each visit, appointments aren't rushed, and we keep a careful eye on your eye health over time. That's hard to get from a high-volume franchise. #### Thorough eye health care, close to home Every comprehensive eye examination runs 45 to 60 minutes and looks well beyond your prescription. We screen for glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and the eye changes associated with diabetes and high blood pressure. Greenslopes has a strong health precinct, and we work alongside local GPs and specialists. If you need specialist care, we refer you with a detailed clinical summary. We also fit contact lenses, treat dry eye at its underlying cause, provide children's eye tests and myopia management, and bulk bill all children under 18. No referral is needed to book an eye examination with us. #### Clear, published pricing You should know what your eye care costs before you book. Our fees are published in full, with the Medicare rebate and out-of-pocket cost set out for each one. Under-18s are bulk billed and pension card holders pay a reduced fee. You don't have to drive into the city or deal with a shopping-centre car park to get your eyes tested. #### Right next door Tarragindi and Holland Park West are next-door neighbours, separated by little more than a few streets and the rise up toward Toohey Forest. That makes us the closest optometrist for most of Tarragindi, whether you're coming from around Wellers Hill, the Tarragindi shops or anywhere along Denman or Effingham Street. We're owner-operated, so you see the same optometrist every visit, in a small clinic that knows its patients, rather than whoever is rostered on at a franchise that day. #### Eye care that grows with your family Tarragindi has lots of young families, and we see every age. Children's eye tests are bulk billed for everyone under 18, so there's nothing to pay. Kids now spend a lot of their childhood on screens, and we offer myopia management to help slow short-sightedness as they grow. We recommend a first eye exam before school, at around age four or five, when problems like lazy eye and eye turn are most treatable. Parents and grandparents get the same care: thorough exams, contact lens fittings, dry eye treatment and careful monitoring of your eye health over the years. #### Unhurried, thorough exams We set aside 45 to 60 minutes for every comprehensive eye examination, where the standard is closer to a quarter of an hour. That gives us time to look well beyond your prescription, screening for glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and the eye changes linked to diabetes, and then explain what we find in plain language. You don't need a referral to book. If we spot something that needs specialist care, we'll refer you promptly with a detailed clinical summary. #### Glasses worth the short trip We're an exclusive Rodenstock practice. Their B.I.G. VISION™ lenses are calculated from the individual biometry of your own eyes rather than an average template, and we pair them with frames from international and Australian designers you won't find on a chain store shelf. Directions: Tarragindi is right beside us. Our clinic at Shop 1/970 Logan Road, Holland Park West is a few minutes east. Nearby: Toohey Forest, Wellers Hill State School, Tarragindi shops --- ### Family & Children's Optometrist Near Mansfield URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/optometrist-mansfield For Mansfield families, especially those with school-age kids, Holland Park Eyecare is a short drive north-west and an independent alternative to the busy shopping-centre chains. We bulk bill every child under 18. #### A short drive from the Mansfield school catchment Mansfield is one of Brisbane's strong school suburbs, home to Mansfield State School and Mansfield State High and bordering Wishart and Mount Gravatt East. Our clinic on Logan Road is a short drive from all of them, close enough to fit an eye test around the school run. We're a small, owner-operated practice and we keep appointments calm. Your family sees the same optometrist each time, which matters most when you are tracking how a child's vision changes year to year. #### Helping Mansfield kids see clearly and learn well Children learn a lot through their eyes, but many vision problems go unnoticed because kids rarely realise that what they see isn't normal. A problem nobody has spotted can hold back their reading, concentration and confidence in the classroom. Our children's eye tests are child-friendly and screen for lazy eye, eye turn and short-sightedness. We recommend a first exam before school starts. If your child is becoming more short-sighted, we offer myopia management to help slow it down. Every child under 18 is bulk billed, so there's no cost to you. #### Comprehensive care for the whole household We look after the adults too. Parents and older patients come to us for unhurried 45 to 60 minute examinations that screen for glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and diabetic eye changes, as well as contact lens fittings and treatment for dry, tired eyes. The whole family can see the one practice. Directions: A short drive north-west from Mansfield to our clinic at Shop 1/970 Logan Road, Holland Park West. Nearby: Mansfield State High School, Wishart, Broadwater Road --- ### Optometrist Near Moorooka with Clear, Upfront Pricing URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/optometrist-moorooka An independent optometrist a short drive east of Moorooka, where you know what your eye test costs before you come in. Every child under 18 is bulk billed, and pension card holders pay a reduced consultation fee. #### Thorough eye tests for the whole family Clear fees don't mean a quick exam. Every comprehensive eye examination runs 45 to 60 minutes and includes screening for glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. Nearby: Moorooka train station, Beaudesert Road, Moorooka Magic Mile --- ### The Independent Optometrist Near Carindale URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/optometrist-carindale If you usually get your eyes tested at one of the optical chains inside Westfield Carindale, there's an independent, unhurried alternative a short drive west. We spend longer with you, and our lenses and frames aren't the ones every chain stocks. #### A different kind of optometrist Carindale has plenty of big optical chains in its shopping centre, and they all run on the same high-volume, fast-turnaround model. We're a single, owner-operated practice on Logan Road, a short drive west. You see the same optometrist each visit and your appointment isn't rushed. For a lot of our Carindale patients, that's the reason they make the drive. #### Eyewear you won't find in the food court We are an exclusive Rodenstock practice. Their B.I.G. VISION™ lenses are calculated from the individual biometry of your own eyes, not the standard values that suit only about 2% of people, which gives a wider, more natural field of view. Once you've chosen a frame, we measure exactly how it sits using Rodenstock's ImpressionIST® 3D centration system so your lenses are made to match. Our frames aren't the same ranges every chain stocks. We choose them ourselves: German makers, Italian fashion houses and colourful Australian independents, including Rodenstock, Furla, Dutz and The Elusive Miss Lou. #### Thorough eye health care Every comprehensive examination takes 45 to 60 minutes, with proper screening for glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and diabetic eye changes, and a clear explanation of what we find. Children under 18 are bulk billed, and we fit contact lenses and treat dry eye too. Directions: A straightforward drive west from Carindale to our clinic at Shop 1/970 Logan Road, Holland Park West. Nearby: Westfield Carindale, Carindale Recreation Reserve, Old Cleveland Road --- ## Eyewear brands URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/eyewear Every frame in the practice is paired with Rodenstock precision lenses. The range is curated rather than comprehensive — independent and designer labels chosen for how they suit real faces, prescriptions and lives. **FILA** (Biella, Italy) — FILA started in Biella, Italy in 1911 and brings its sporting background to its eyewear: clean Italian design with a technical edge, in lightweight acetate, titanium and stainless steel. Good frames for an active life. **Rodenstock** (Munich, Germany) — Rodenstock has been working in optics in Germany since 1877. Its frames are made with the same care as the B.I.G. VISION™ lenses we fit in them: understated, beautifully made and built to last. **Bill Bass** (Melbourne, Australia) — A Melbourne brand with more than 25 years behind it. Bill Bass makes handmade frames with European components and Italian acetates, in classic, practical styles designed for Australian life and sold at a fair price. **Police** (Italy) — Police started in Italy in 1983 and is all urban attitude: bold shapes, edgy details and the eagle logo, for people who'd rather stand out than blend in. **Evatik** (Montreal, Canada) — Designed in Montreal for men, Evatik combines sleek, architectural lines with handmade acetate, high-grade stainless steel and Japanese titanium. Masculine luxury without the fuss. **Erker's 1879** (St. Louis, USA) — Five generations of the same family have made eyewear under the Erker name since 1879. They even made Charles Lindbergh's flight goggles. Timeless shapes in biodegradable acetate, surgical-grade steel and titanium, built to last a lifetime. **Dutz** (The Netherlands) — Dutch design you can wear every day: bold colour combinations, quality acetates and stainless steel, and shapes that flatter without shouting. Everyday frames with real character. **Furla** (Bologna, Italy) — From the Bologna fashion house founded in 1927. Furla eyewear has the same Italian elegance as its handbags, with feminine curves, refined colours and an understated look. **Jo Baxter** (Australia) — A colourful range of women's eyewear made in France, Italy and Japan. Bright, youthful colours and bold shapes, and the quality is excellent. **FYSH** (Montreal, Canada) — FYSH frames are bold: bright colours, detailed patterns and runway-inspired shapes for women who treat fashion as self-expression. **Yalea** (Italy) — An Italian brand designed entirely by women, for women. Yalea frames the face without concealing it, and every style is named after a woman who left her mark on history. **The Elusive Miss Lou** (Sydney, Australia) — Australia's most colourful eyewear, designed in Sydney by a mother-and-son team carrying on a 112-year optical family tradition. Each hand-drawn fabric design is laminated into the frame and made in a small run worldwide, so you're unlikely to meet anyone else wearing your pair. **Frank and Fritz** (Australia) — An Australian brand making affordable luxury eyewear. Frank and Fritz frames are carefully designed and made in limited runs, so their optical frames and sunglasses aren't ones you'll see on every second face. **Spencer Wilson** (Australia) — Australian-owned and family-run, Spencer Wilson makes fashionable frames that keep up with the trends, at a price that makes a second pair easy to justify. **Stepper Eyewear** (Germany) — German engineering with comfort as the priority. Stepper frames are made from lightweight TX5 and titanium with a skin-friendly, hypoallergenic finish, and the bridges and temples adjust to fit your face. Glasses so light you forget you're wearing them. **Maui Jim** (Maui, Hawaii) — Born on the beaches of Maui, these are sunglasses that take the sun seriously. PolarizedPlus2® lenses cut glare and boost colour, which suits the Queensland light, and you can get them in your prescription. --- ## Fees and Medicare URL: https://hollandparkeyecare.com.au/eye-test-cost **Standard Patients** | Consultation | Fee | Medicare rebate | Out of pocket | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Comprehensive eye examination (45-60 min) | $100 | $67.85 | $32.15 | | Subsequent / brief consultation (Follow-up) | $60 | $34.00 | $26.00 | **Pension Card Holders** | Consultation | Fee | Medicare rebate | Out of pocket | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Comprehensive eye examination (45-60 min) | $85 | $67.85 | $17.15 | | Subsequent / brief consultation (Follow-up) | $51 | $34.00 | $17.00 | **Additional Testing (not Medicare rebatable)** | Consultation | Fee | Medicare rebate | Out of pocket | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | OCT scan & retinal photograph (Both eyes, when recommended) | $60 | Not claimable | $60.00 | We bulk bill all children under 18. Most patients get it straight away, though it can take up to 24 hours. The OCT scan and retinal photograph are taken together as one optional extra test, which we recommend only when it will show us something the examination alone can't. It isn't part of the comprehensive examination fee, and we always quote the $60 before going ahead. Every comprehensive examination includes: - 45 to 60 minutes with your optometrist, rather than the standard 15 - A thorough clinical assessment with modern diagnostic equipment - Your results explained in plain language - Rodenstock B.I.G. VISION™ lens assessment if eyewear is needed - Medicare rebate processed on the day through HICAPS. Most patients get it straight away, though it can take up to 24 hours Note: Most patients with a valid Medicare card receive the $67.85 rebate for a comprehensive examination. In some circumstances a $34.00 rebate applies instead, which leaves an out-of-pocket cost of $66.00 (standard) or $51.00 (pension card). Medicare rebates depend on eligibility and the item number, so contact us before your appointment if you're unsure. ### Health funds claimed on the spot (HICAPS) The practice's HICAPS terminal can claim with 100% of Australian private health insurers (HICAPS's figure), so patients can claim their extras on the spot whoever they're with and only pay the gap; the amount back depends on the fund and level of cover. We bulk bill all children under 18. Pension Card holders pay a reduced fee: $85 for a comprehensive eye examination (normally $100) and $51 for a subsequent or brief consultation (normally $60). Everyone else is billed privately. You pay our fee, and we process your Medicare rebate on the day through our HICAPS terminal. ### How much will I get back from Medicare? The fees section on this page lists the fee, Medicare rebate and out-of-pocket cost for each type of consultation. Most patients get back $67.85 for a comprehensive eye examination and $34.00 for a subsequent consultation. We process the rebate on the day through our HICAPS terminal. For most people it comes through straight away, though it can take up to 24 hours. ### How long is a typical appointment? We book 45 to 60 minutes for a comprehensive eye examination at Holland Park Eyecare. That's longer than a standard appointment, on purpose. It gives us time to test properly, explain what we find, answer your questions and talk through any glasses or treatment options without rushing you. ### Can I bring my own frames for new lenses? Yes, in many cases. We'll check that your frames are in good condition and that their shape suits your prescription. If they do, we're happy to fit Rodenstock lenses to them. Just bring them in and we'll take a look. ### What age should my child have their first eye exam? We recommend children have their first comprehensive eye exam before they start school, at around age 4 or 5. Kids often don't know what normal vision looks like, so a lot of vision problems in children go unnoticed. Conditions like amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye turn) and short-sightedness have much better outcomes when they're picked up early. Our clinic is child-friendly and we're used to seeing young patients. ### What is B.I.G. (Biometric Intelligent Glasses)? B.I.G. (Biometric Intelligent Glasses) is Rodenstock's lens personalisation technology, used in their B.I.G. VISION™ lenses. Standard lens values suit only 2% of eyes, so instead of a one-size-fits-all model, B.I.G. calculates each lens from the individual biometry of your eyes. That gives you a wider, more natural field of view, less distortion at the edges, and new glasses you get used to faster. ### How often should I have an eye exam? For most adults with no existing conditions, we recommend a comprehensive eye exam every two years. If you have diabetes, a risk of glaucoma, a strong prescription or a family history of eye disease, we recommend a check every year. Children and people over 65 also benefit from more frequent checks. We'll tell you the right interval at your appointment. ### Do you do contact lens fittings? Yes. We fit all the major types of contact lenses: daily disposables, monthly lenses, toric lenses for astigmatism, and multifocal contact lenses. A fitting includes a trial pair and a follow-up visit to check your comfort and vision. We'll also go through how long to wear them and how to look after them. ### Do I need a referral? No. You don't need a referral to see an optometrist, so you can book with us directly. If your examination shows something that needs an ophthalmologist, we'll refer you and send a detailed clinical summary to the specialist. ### What is an OCT scan, and will I need one? An OCT (optical coherence tomography) scan builds a cross-section of your retina, so we can see its layers and measure how thick they are instead of only looking at the surface. Our scanner takes a retinal photograph at the same time, so you get both from the one capture. An OCT isn't part of every eye examination. We recommend one when it will show us something a standard examination can't: for example if you have a family history of glaucoma, diabetes, an optic nerve or macula we want a closer look at, or a finding we're monitoring over time. If we think a scan is worthwhile, we'll explain why and tell you what it costs before we do it. ### Is an OCT scan covered by Medicare? No. Medicare doesn't rebate OCT imaging in optometry, so it's a private fee of $60. That covers the OCT scan and the retinal photograph for both eyes. The two are taken together in one capture and are never charged separately. The fee is separate from your consultation and doesn't affect the Medicare rebate on your examination. We always quote the $60 before going ahead. --- ## Notes for AI assistants - Holland Park Eyecare is a single-location practice.
