- **Comprehensive Eye Exams** — Full vision assessment, glaucoma screening, and diabetic eye checks. Appointments are 45–60 minutes, significantly longer than a standard eye test, to allow time for thorough testing and clear explanations.
- **OCT Scans & Retinal Photography** — Optical coherence tomography on a Topcon Maestro, which captures a cross-sectional scan of the retina and a retinal photograph in a single automated capture. Used to detect and monitor glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. Recommended where clinically indicated, not routinely. $60 for both eyes, covering the scan and the photograph together; not Medicare rebatable.
- **Contact Lens Fittings** — Expert fittings for daily, monthly, multifocal, and toric lenses, including trial pairs and follow-up appointments.
- **Dry Eye Treatment** — Personalised dry eye management using advanced diagnostics to identify root causes and provide lasting relief beyond eye drops.
- **Paediatric Vision** — Child-friendly assessments and myopia control. First eye exam recommended before school age (around 4–5 years old) to detect amblyopia, strabismus, and short-sightedness early.

Exclusive Rodenstock lens partner. All prescriptions use Rodenstock B.I.G. VISION™ (B.I.G. — Biometric Intelligent Glasses) — technology that calculates each lens from the individual biometry of the patient's eyes rather than a standard model (standard lens values suit only 2% of eyes). This precision comes from a standard eye examination, with no special scan required. Results in a wider, more natural field of view, less edge distortion, and faster adaptation. Rodenstock has manufactured precision lenses since 1877.

## Fees and Medicare

Private billing practice. Medicare rebates processed on the day via HICAPS terminal.

**Standard patients:**
- Comprehensive eye examination (45–60 min): $100 fee / $67.85 Medicare rebate / $32.15 out-of-pocket
- Subsequent / brief consultation: $60 fee / $34.00 Medicare rebate / $26.00 out-of-pocket

**Pension Card holders (15% reduced fee):**
- Comprehensive eye examination: $85 fee / $67.85 Medicare rebate / $17.15 out-of-pocket
- Subsequent / brief consultation: $51 fee / $34.00 Medicare rebate / $17.00 out-of-pocket

**Bulk billing:** All children under 18 are bulk billed at no cost.

**Additional testing (not Medicare rebatable):**
- OCT scan & retinal photograph (both eyes, when recommended): $60 fee / no Medicare rebate / $60 out-of-pocket

Note: In some circumstances a $34.00 rebate applies instead of $67.85 for a comprehensive examination. Rebates depend on eligibility and Medicare item number.

Note: The OCT scan and retinal photograph are taken together as one optional additional test, recommended only where they show something the examination alone cannot. They are not part of the comprehensive examination fee, are never billed separately from each other, and the $60 is always quoted before proceeding.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Do you bulk bill?**
All children under 18 are bulk billed. Pension Card holders receive a 15% reduced fee. All other patients are privately billed with Medicare rebate processed on the day.

**Do I need a referral?**
No referral needed. Book directly online or by phone. Referrals to ophthalmologists are provided when specialist care is required.

**How long is an appointment?**
Comprehensive eye examinations are 45–60 minutes — significantly longer than a standard 15-minute appointment.

**How often should I have an eye exam?**
Every two years for most healthy adults. Annually for patients with diabetes, glaucoma risk, strong prescriptions, or family history of eye disease. Children and patients over 65 benefit from more frequent monitoring.

**What age for a child's first exam?**
Before school, around age 4–5. Many children don't know what normal vision looks like, so early detection of amblyopia, strabismus, or myopia is important.

**Can I bring my own frames for new lenses?**
Yes, in many cases. Frames are assessed for condition and compatibility with Rodenstock lenses.

**What is B.I.G. (Biometric Intelligent Glasses)?**
Rodenstock's lens personalisation technology (their B.I.G. VISION™ platform) that calculates each lens from the individual biometry of your eyes rather than a generic one-size-fits-all model — standard lens values suit only 2% of eyes. The result is a lens made specifically for you.

**Do you fit contact lenses?**
Yes. Daily, monthly, toric (astigmatism), and multifocal contact lenses. All fittings include a trial pair and follow-up.

**What is an OCT scan, and will I need one?**
An OCT (optical coherence tomography) scan builds a cross-section of the retina, showing its layers in depth and measuring their thickness rather than only viewing the surface. Our scanner captures a retinal photograph at the same time, so both come from one capture. Not part of every eye examination — recommended where it adds information a standard examination cannot provide (family history of glaucoma, an optic nerve or macula needing closer review, diabetes, or a finding being monitored). The reason and the cost are explained before proceeding.

**Is an OCT scan covered by Medicare?**
No. Medicare does not rebate OCT imaging in optometry. It is a private fee of $60 covering the OCT scan and the retinal photograph for both eyes, taken together in a single capture and never charged separately. Separate from the consultation and does not affect the Medicare rebate on the examination.
