Before your appointment
Allow 45 to 60 minutes for a comprehensive eye examination. That is longer than a standard eye test and deliberately so — it is enough time to examine your eyes properly, explain what we find in plain language, and talk through lenses or treatment without rushing. If it is your first visit, arrive a few minutes early so we can take your details. No referral is needed to see an optometrist. If we think an OCT scan would show us something the examination alone cannot, we explain why and quote the $60 before going ahead. Children under 18 are bulk billed.
What to bring
- Your Medicare card — we process the rebate on the day through HICAPS
- Your Pension or Health Care Card, if you have one
- Your current glasses, and your contact lenses if you wear them
- Any recent prescription, or a referral or letter from your GP or a specialist
- A list of any medications you take — some affect the eyes
- Sunglasses, in case we use dilating drops and your eyes are light-sensitive afterwards
