Why we publish our prices
We believe knowing what you'll pay is part of feeling comfortable about your visit. That's why our fees are listed in full, right here — so you can see exactly what an eye examination costs before you book, without having to call ahead and ask. The figures above are the complete picture: the consultation fee, the Medicare rebate, and what's actually left to pay out of pocket.
A comprehensive eye examination is $100. Most patients with a valid Medicare card receive a $67.85 rebate, leaving an out-of-pocket cost of around $32.15. The rebate is processed on the day through our HICAPS terminal, so for most people it lands back in their account instantly.
What's included in a $100 eye exam
Our fee buys time and thoroughness, not a rushed 15-minute slot. Every comprehensive examination is allocated 45 to 60 minutes with an AHPRA-registered optometrist. In that time we assess your vision and prescription, check how your eyes work together, and examine the health of the eye — screening for conditions such as glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration, and the eye changes linked to diabetes and high blood pressure.
We use advanced diagnostic equipment, explain what we find in plain language, and — if you need glasses — assess you for Rodenstock B.I.G. VISION™ lenses, calculated from the individual biometry of your eyes. Everything described here is part of the one comprehensive examination fee. If we ever recommend additional imaging or testing beyond a standard exam, we'll always explain what it involves and what it costs before going ahead — so there are no surprises.
Free for children under 18 — bulk billed
We bulk bill every child under 18, so there's no out-of-pocket cost for their eye exam. Children often don't realise their vision isn't normal, and undetected problems can quietly affect reading, learning and confidence — so we'd rather cost never be the reason a child's eyes go unchecked. The same child-friendly, unhurried appointment applies, and we'll talk you through myopia management if your child is becoming more short-sighted.
Pension Card holders
Pension Card holders receive a 15% reduced consultation fee — $85 for a comprehensive eye examination (instead of $100) and $51 for a subsequent or brief consultation (instead of $60). With the Medicare rebate applied, that brings the out-of-pocket cost of a comprehensive exam down to around $17.15.
How Medicare rebates and payment work
For adults, we are a private billing practice: you pay the professional fee, and your Medicare rebate is processed on the spot through our HICAPS terminal. Most patients receive their rebate instantly, although it can occasionally take up to 24 hours to appear. You don't need to lodge a separate claim with Medicare — we handle it at reception.
No referral is needed to see an optometrist — you can book directly with us. If during your examination we identify something that needs specialist ophthalmology care, we'll refer you appropriately and provide a detailed clinical summary for the specialist.
