Your Closest Independent Optometrist to Tarragindi

Tarragindi sits right beside us, so for Tarragindi locals we are quite simply the nearest independent optometrist — only a few minutes east to our clinic on Logan Road. No drive into the city, no shopping-centre car park, no rushed chain appointment.

Right next door, not across town

Tarragindi and Holland Park West are next-door neighbours, separated by little more than a few streets and the rise up toward Toohey Forest. That makes us the closest optometrist for most of Tarragindi — an easy, familiar trip whether you are coming from around Wellers Hill, the Tarragindi shops, or anywhere along Denman or Effingham Street.

We are owner-operated, which for you means continuity: you see the same optometrist every visit, in a small clinic that genuinely knows its patients, rather than whoever happens to be rostered on at a franchise that day.

Eye care that grows with your family

Tarragindi is full of young families, and we look after every age under one roof. Children's eye tests are bulk billed for everyone under 18, so there is nothing out of pocket — and with so much of childhood now spent on screens, we offer myopia management to help slow short-sightedness as kids grow. We recommend a first eye exam before school, around age four or five, when problems like lazy eye and eye turn are most treatable.

For parents, grandparents and everyone in between, the same care carries through the years: thorough exams, contact lens fittings, dry eye treatment, and careful monitoring of your eye health over time.

Unhurried, genuinely thorough exams

We set aside a full 45 to 60 minutes for every comprehensive eye examination — far more than the standard quarter-hour. That time lets us look well beyond your prescription, screening for glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and the eye changes linked to diabetes, and then explain what we find in plain language, without rushing you out the door.

No referral is needed to book. If we ever spot something that needs specialist care, we refer you promptly with a detailed clinical summary.

Glasses worth the short trip

When you need new glasses, the few minutes from Tarragindi are well spent. We are an exclusive Rodenstock practice: their B.I.G. VISION™ lenses are calculated from the individual biometry of your own eyes rather than an average template, and we pair them with frames from our curated collection of independent European designers you will not find on a chain shelf.

See our full eye test cost and Medicare rebates page for the complete fee breakdown.

Common questions

We bulk bill all children under 18. Pension Card holders are eligible for a reduced consultation fee — $85 for a comprehensive eye examination (normally $100) and $51 for a subsequent or brief consultation (normally $60). For all other patients, we are a private billing practice: a professional fee applies and your Medicare rebate is processed on the day via our HICAPS terminal.

We recommend children have their first comprehensive eye exam before they start school — around age 4 or 5. Many vision problems in children go undetected because kids often don't know what normal vision looks like. Early detection of conditions like amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye turn), or short-sightedness makes a significant difference to outcomes. Our clinic is child-friendly and experienced with paediatric patients.

A comprehensive eye examination at Holland Park Eyecare is allocated 45–60 minutes. This is significantly longer than a standard appointment, and intentionally so. We use that time to conduct thorough testing, explain what we find, answer your questions, and discuss any eyewear or treatment options — without any rush.

No referral is needed to see an optometrist. You can book directly with us. If during your examination we identify something that requires specialist ophthalmology care, we will refer you appropriately and provide a detailed clinical summary for the specialist.
